About This Spot

Stepping into Dear Sandy feels like settling into a well-loved nook where the energy perfectly balances between vibrant and calm. Nestled on NE Sandy Boulevard, this cocktail bar and coffee shop offers a cozy refuge whether you’re starting your day or looking to unwind as the evening unfolds. The lighting is intentionally softened, encouraging quiet conversation or reflective solo moments, while the hum of friendly chatter and the gentle clink of glassware create a warm undercurrent of human connection.

Here, the pace is unhurried, inviting you to linger—whether you’re nestled into a plush couch working late on a project, or sharing a round of thoughtfully crafted cocktails with friends. The space welcomes a diverse crowd, blending the glow of early morning espresso shots with the smooth transition to creative, spirited drinks as night takes hold. The bartenders, attentive and warm, seem to know just when to offer a familiar smile or a surprise mix, adding a subtle personal touch to each visit.

Menu highlights weave through your experience rather than define it. Imagine sipping an espresso martini or a chai latte that carries the kind of depth and gentle sweetness that surprises you with every sip. Perhaps you’ll explore the unexpected — a bright mojito, a refreshing iced tea, or a nonalcoholic hot toddy that feels like a quiet comfort on cooler evenings. Small plates like prosciutto paired with fruit punctuate the drink moments, bringing subtle, savory notes into the cozy rhythm of the experience.

Dear Sandy’s inviting atmosphere makes it a rare kind of place—equally suited for focused solo hours or relaxed gatherings. The attentive service, combined with thoughtfully curated seating and a relaxed playlist, encourages a feeling of ease that lingers even after you leave. It’s a local gem where the spirit of community quietly blooms, lighting up Portland’s ever-evolving tapestry of places meant to feel like a home away from home.

I just realized I haven’t reviewed Dear Sandy yet. I come here super frequently. It started with looking for a place over a year ago that I can work late but that I don’t have to order alcohol. Sometimes I’m just not feeling having a drink but I’m always interested in coffee. Plenty of outlets and seating. It’s a super cute place and everyone is really friendly. A great sense of community and I feel like you can easily focus in and read or get work done or you can meet folks and be social. If you haven’t gone yet, you should.

Okey of the best organic chai teas that I've had. Service was cordial and quick when working on your drink but they were under staffed so it felt slow if it wasn't your turn yet haha nice seating with comfortable couches and chairs too. Decor is cool and lighting is dimmed/dark. Music was a little louder than what I consider ideal but that's also subjective.

I needed to make some updates to an article I was writing on Medium, but no coffee shops were open. I looked on Yelp and found this place, open till Midnight; it was around 10:30pm so it was perfect. The barista/bartender (oh yeah, this is a coffee shop/bar) made me a custom drink. He made me a latte with pear syrup sweetener and orange peel shavings on top. It was unexpectedly good. Like I said, it has a bar, but it still maintains the coffee cafe vibe.

Um!! Impeccable! Was recommended from the owner of another great bar (Too Soon) and so glad I went in because the ambiance was SO cozy, fun, and unique. The drinks were perfect. But the real star of the show was bartender Michelle and her coworker. (I didn’t catch his name!) So warm and personable. I immensely enjoyed my time here!!! Thanks yall

This is my favorite bar in all of portland. Wonderful, creative cocktails and caffeinated or zero-proof drinks to switch over to when the night is winding down. All the bartenders are so kind and talented, the dealers choice is always a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is chill and cozy, it can be a work space or a great place to bring friends at any time of the day.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ First time at this hidden gem, and I was pleasantly surprised. Dear Sandy delivers something special—mixing cozy café comfort with the energy of a low-key bar. The space was decked out for Halloween, adding just the right amount of spooky charm without overdoing it. Not to forget, the staff is patient with you as you will be with them. Warm and inviting to guests and will really take their time 1 on 1 before moving onto another customer. This level of hospitality and respect goes a long way! Inside, vintage furniture and funky light installations created a perfect balance of warmth and quirk. On this particular night, people were working, trading books, and sipping themed drinks. It felt like a space that encourages creativity and community—definitely worth a return visit. I’ll have to check it out during the day!

As everyone says the vibes are immaculate here, there’s lots of different types of seating which is great, they host cute events and community pop ups plus the seasonal Fear Sandy and Dear Santa menus have been so fun! I love that the whole menu is available all hours and they are open so many hours you really can get a tasty cocktail, coffee or snack anytime!
